Lin Shidong (Chinese: 林诗栋) is a talented table tennis player from China. He was born on April 18, 2005. Since February 2025, he has been ranked as the world's number one player in table tennis.

Lin Shidong's Journey in Table Tennis

Lin Shidong started his amazing journey in table tennis at a young age. He joined the Hainan provincial team in 2015. This was a big step for him.

Joining the National Team

In 2020, Lin won the national youth championships in singles. This victory helped him join the Chinese national second team. He made history as the first person from Hainan province to be part of the Chinese national team.

In 2022, Lin was promoted to the national first team. This meant he was among the top players in China. He won his first major title at the WTT Feeder European Summer Series in Budapest. Later that year, he represented China at the 2022 ITTF World Youth Championships. There, he won four gold medals, including the U-19 singles title.

Major Wins and Achievements

Lin Shidong continued to achieve great things in 2023. He won the WTT Contender series event in Amman. He also teamed up with Kuai Man in mixed doubles at the 2023 World Championships. They won a bronze medal, which was a fantastic achievement for his first time at the championships.

After winning the men's singles title at the All China Table Tennis Championships, Lin defended his four titles at the 2023 ITTF World Youth Championships. This showed his consistent skill and dedication.

Recent Successes

After the 2024 Summer Olympics, Lin Shidong won more men's singles titles. He won the WTT Contender Almaty and WTT Champions Macao in September 2024. In October, he defeated the famous player Ma Long to win the WTT China Smash.

His winning streak ended when he lost in the men's singles final at the 2024 Asian Championships to Tomokazu Harimoto. However, Lin quickly bounced back. He won two more singles titles at the WTT Contender Muscat and WTT Champions Frankfurt.

In 2025, Lin won the WTT Singapore Smash title by defeating Liang Jingkun. This victory helped him reach the number one spot in the ITTF world rankings in February. As the top-ranked player, he competed at the ITTF Men's World Cup. He reached the final but finished as the runner-up to Hugo Calderano. At the 2025 World Championships, Lin played in three events. He was a top player in both singles and mixed doubles (with Kuai Man). He reached the quarterfinals in all three events.
