Lina Jonn facts for kids

Lina Jonn, whose full name was Carolina Johnsson, was a talented Swedish photographer. She lived from 1861 to 1896. Lina is famous for her amazing documentary photos, which captured real life.
Growing Up
Lina Jonn was born on March 8, 1861. Her family lived in a place called Stora Råby, close to Lund in southern Sweden. Her father, Jons Johnsson, was a farmer, and her mother was Hanna Pålsdotter. Lina was one of seven children in her family.
When Lina was 16, she started working as a governess. This meant she helped teach children on a large estate near Höör. She then studied German and French for a short time in Lund. In 1879, she traveled to Neuchatel, Switzerland, to continue her studies.
The next year, in 1880, Lina moved to England. There, she taught music, languages, and art. She even thought about becoming a physical education teacher. However, a problem with her back stopped her from doing this. After more time studying painting in Switzerland, she returned to Sweden. This is when she decided to become a photographer.
Becoming a Photographer
Lina Jonn likely learned photography in Paris, France. Her first professional photography job was in Helsingborg, Sweden. She worked with a Finnish photographer named Per Alexis Brandt.
In 1891, Lina opened her very own photography studio in Lund. Her studio quickly became popular. Many important people came to her for portraits. At that time, people loved having photos for family albums or small visiting cards. Lina's business did very well, and she even won several awards for her work.
Later Life
In 1893, Lina went on holiday to Norway with her sister, Erika. There, she met Gudbrand Ole Tandberg, a Norwegian farmer. Lina was very impressed by him, even though he was 16 years older than her. She found him serious, knowledgeable, and full of good ideas.
Lina and Gudbrand got married in 1895. The next year, she gave birth to their son. Sadly, about two months later, on Christmas Day in 1896, Lina passed away. She was only 35 years old.
