Why is Höör Called Höör?
The town of Höör has had a few different names over time. In the 12th century, it was called Hørg. Later, it became Hør and then Hör.
How the Name Changed
The way Höör is spelled today, with the unusual double "ö," came about in the early 1900s. The Swedish postal service made this change.
Avoiding Confusion
Back then, it was common to write "här" (which means "here" in Swedish) on letters. This showed that the letter should be delivered within the same town. To avoid confusing letters meant for the town of Hör with letters that just said "here," the postal service changed the town's name to Höör.
