Skåne County (called Skåne län in Swedish) is the southernmost county in Sweden. It's also known as Scania County in English. A county is like a large region or administrative area. Skåne County mostly matches the old traditional province of Skåne.
This county shares borders with Halland, Kronoberg, and Blekinge counties. It even connects to the Capital Region in Denmark through the amazing Öresund Bridge. The main city where the Skåne Governor works is Malmö. The main offices for the Skåne Regional Council are in both Kristianstad and Malmö.
Skåne County was created on January 1, 1997. This happened when two older counties, Kristianstad County and Malmöhus County, joined together. Skåne County covers about 3% of Sweden's total land area. However, it's home to a lot of people! About 1.3 million people live here, which is 13% of Sweden's entire population. Did you know that Prince Oscar is the official Duke of Skåne?
