Svedala Municipality (which in Swedish is Svedala kommun) is a special area in southern Sweden. It is located in Skåne County, just southeast of a bigger city called Malmö. The main town and administrative center of this municipality is Svedala.
This municipality was formed over time by joining smaller areas together. This happened in steps during 1952, 1967, 1974, and 1977. Svedala was one of the last areas to be fully organized during a big local government change in the 1970s. There were even talks about making it part of Malmö Municipality.
Svedala Municipality also has a special friendship with a town in Germany called Bergen auf Rügen. This is called a city partnership.
