Sjöbo Municipality offers interesting historical sites and a popular annual event.
Historic Churches in Sjöbo
You can find at least five medieval churches from the 12th century in the municipality. These old churches are located in Södra Åsum, Tolånga, Björka, Blentarp, and Everlöv. They are special because they have not been heavily changed over the years. Many other churches in Scania were greatly rebuilt in the late 1800s.
Some churches, like Södra Åsum, Everlöv, and Illstrop, once had beautiful paintings called frescos. These paintings were covered up centuries ago. In recent years, they have been slowly uncovered and restored.
Sjöbo Fair: A Big Local Event
Besides historical sites, Sjöbo is famous for its yearly festival called Sjöbo marknad. This translates to Sjöbo fair in English. The first fair was held in 1864.
