Linda Iris Newbery, born on August 12, 1952, is a talented British writer. She is famous for her books for young adults. However, she also writes stories for readers of all ages.

Her first novel, Run with the Hare, came out in 1988. At that time, she was also an English teacher in a school. In 2006, her book Catcall won a special award. It received the Silver Award from the Nestlé Children's Book Prize.

Early Life and Writing Journey

Linda Newbery was born in Romford, a town in Essex, England. She spent most of her childhood in Epping, another town in Essex. She went to a grammar school in Loughton, which was close by.

When she was a child, Linda kept her writing a secret. A headteacher once told her that writing was "not a proper job." Even so, she filled many notebooks with her stories. As a young person, she also enjoyed writing poetry.

Before becoming a full-time writer, Linda taught English in secondary schools. She worked on her novels during this time.
