Lindenberg Island is a small, round island found off the coast of Antarctica. It is a volcanic island, meaning it was formed by volcanic activity. This island is very small, only about 0.93 kilometers (0.5 nautical miles) across.
Where is Lindenberg Island?
Lindenberg Island is located near the Antarctic Peninsula, which is a long, curved part of Antarctica that points towards South America. It lies about 20 kilometers (11 nautical miles) north of Robertson Island. It is also about 65 kilometers (35 nautical miles) east-northeast of a place called Cape Fairweather.
How was Lindenberg Island discovered?
This island was first seen by a Norwegian whaling group in December 1893. This group was led by a man named C.A. Larsen. He named the island after someone from a company called Woltereck and Robertson, which had sent him on his trip to Antarctica.
What is Lindenberg Island like?
Lindenberg Island is a circular island. Because it is volcanic, its shape might be a clue to how it was formed. Like many places in Antarctica, Lindenberg Island is uninhabited. This means no people live there.
