A Look at Lindesberg's History
Lindesberg has a very long history. It was once a busy center for mining. The oldest signs of a town are found in the stone church. This church was built in the 1300s.
Back then, the town was called Lindesås. It got its official town rights and its current name, Lindesberg, in 1643. This was given by Queen Christina. The name lind means linden tree. This is why the town's coat of arms has a tree on it. Lindesberg's mining area was even shown on a big map from the 1500s called Carta Marina.
