Lindsay Park is a large park in Davenport, Iowa, United States. It covers about 31 acres (12.5 hectares) and is found in the Village of East Davenport. This park is special because it has a long history.
Part of Lindsay Park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is an important historical site. It was added to the register in 1980. Another part of the park joined the register in 1984. The entire park was also listed on the Davenport Register of Historic Properties in 1998.
Today, Lindsay Park is a fun place for everyone. It has a playground and baseball fields. You can also enjoy amazing views of the Mississippi River. The park is right next to the river. There are cool art sculptures along the Riverfront Parkway. Lindsay Park also hosts the yearly Riverssance Festival of Fine Art.
A Park with History: Camp McClellan
Lindsay Park has a very interesting past. During the American Civil War, this area was a training ground. It was part of a large military base called Camp McClellan. Soldiers from the Union Army trained here.
Camp McClellan was set up in August 1861. It was the biggest of five army camps near Davenport. After the war ended, the land changed. It became a neighborhood called McClellan Heights. The southwest part of this area then became Lindsay Park. In the 1980s, the park even hosted a Civil War Muster. This event recreated army life and a market from that time.
