Linköping Football Club, often called LFC, is a professional women's football team from Linköping, Sweden. The club started in 2003. It was formed when the women's football team Kenty DFF joined with the ice hockey club Linköping HC. Their main goals were to make women's football popular in Linköping. They also aimed to become one of the top four teams in Sweden.

History of Linköping FC

In 2004, Linköping FC played their first season in the top Swedish women's league, called Damallsvenskan. They finished in sixth place. The next two years, they reached their goal. They finished fourth in 2005 and third in 2006.

Winning the Swedish Cup

Linköping FC also won the Svenska Cupen (The Swedish Cup) for the first time in 2006. They beat Umeå IK 3–2 in a thrilling final match. In 2007, they finished sixth, which was not as good as they hoped.

In 2008, they almost won the league, leading for a long time. But they ended up in second place behind Umeå IK. However, they won the Svenska Cupen again that same year. They defeated Umeå IK 1–0 in the final. Linköping FC has won the Damallsvenskan league three times: in 2009, 2016, and 2017. They have also won the Svenska Cupen five times.

Notable Players

Over the years, Linköping FC has had many talented players. In 2007, Frida Östberg left the team. Later, they signed Jessica Landström, who had just played for the national team. In February 2008, they also signed two famous Brazilian players, Cristiane and Daniela.

Playing in Europe: UEFA Women's Champions League

Linköping FC has also competed in the UEFA Women's Champions League, which is a big competition for top clubs in Europe. They have played against many strong teams from different countries.

Champions League Journeys

They first played in the Champions League in the 2009–2010 season. They made it to the Round of 16, where they were knocked out by Duisburg from Germany.

In the 2010–2011 season, Linköping FC had a great run. They reached the Quarter-finals, playing against Arsenal from England. It was a very close match, and Arsenal advanced on the away goals rule.

They returned to the Quarter-finals in the 2014–2015 season. This time, they faced Brøndby from Denmark and were narrowly defeated.

In the 2017–2018 season, Linköping FC again reached the Quarter-finals. They played against Manchester City from England, but Manchester City proved too strong.

Their most recent appearances include the 2023–2024 and 2024–2025 qualifying rounds. In 2023–2024, they played against Arsenal and FC Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih. In 2024–2025, they faced Sparta Prague and First Vienna FC.
