Lino Cayetano's TV Career

Lino Cayetano studied mass communication at the University of the Philippines Diliman. He also earned a film degree from New York University in 1999. He began his career as a director in 2003. His first directing job was for the first season of GMA's talent show StarStruck.

In May 2004, he directed an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya. This episode told the life story of his own father and was called Upuan. Lino Cayetano then worked with Maryo J. de los Reyes to direct two TV dramas for ABS-CBN. These shows were Mga Anghel na Walang Langit and Calla Lily. He also directed the singing competition Little Big Star.

Some other notable TV series he directed for ABS-CBN include Aryana, Noah, Tanging Yaman, Kung Ako'y Iiwan Mo, and Growing Up. He also directed several episodes of the anthology series Ipaglaban Mo! and Maalaala Mo Kaya.

After a three-year break, Cayetano returned to directing in 2016. He was one of the directors for ABS-CBN's primetime drama series My Super D. After serving as mayor, Lino Cayetano returned to directing in 2024. He was one of the directors for ABS-CBN's primetime drama series High Street.

Lino Cayetano's Political Journey

In 2010, Lino Cayetano decided to enter politics. He became the barangay captain of Fort Bonifacio. In 2013, at 36 years old, he was elected as a Congressman. He represented Taguig's 2nd District under the Nacionalista Party.

One of his first actions as Congressman was to propose the "Iskolar ng Bayan" bill. This bill aimed to help students. It stated that all high school graduates who were in the Top 10 of their class would automatically become scholars. This meant they could study for free in state-owned universities, including the University of the Philippines. This program was first put into action in Taguig City.

In 2016, he planned to run for re-election as a representative. However, he decided to step aside for his sister, Pia. Pia then ran for the position and won.

In 2019, Lino Cayetano successfully ran for Mayor of Taguig. He took over from his sister-in-law, Lani Cayetano. He served one term as mayor and finished his term in 2022.

In 2024, he sought to become a representative again. He filed his candidacy to run for Taguig–Pateros's 1st District in the 2025 Philippine general election. One of his campaign promises was to create a third congressional district for Taguig. This new district would represent the Embo barangays, which had recently moved to Taguig from Makati. However, in October 2024, the Election Registration Board (ERB) of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Taguig rejected his and Fille Cayetano's request to transfer their voter registration to Taguig's 1st district. This was because they did not meet the residency rules. He ran under the BIDA TAYO ticket but lost the election to the current Representative Ricardo "Ading" Cruz Jr.
