Linvale is a small, unincorporated community in New Jersey, United States. This means it's a village or settlement that doesn't have its own separate local government. It's located in Hunterdon County, right on the border between two areas called East Amwell and West Amwell townships. Long ago, this community was known by a different name: New Market.
History of Linvale
Linvale has some interesting old buildings that tell its story. One important building is the two-story brick New Market Store. It was first built around 1770. Later, it was rebuilt in 1866.
Another historic building is the Linvale United Methodist Church. This church was built in 1858. It was originally known as the New Market Methodist Episcopal Church. These buildings show how the community grew over time.
Linvale's Historic District
The area around Linvale is part of a special place called the New Market–Linvale–Snydertown Historic District. A historic district is a section of a town or city that has important old buildings or features. This district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.
Being on this list means the area is important for its architecture (how its buildings were designed), its commerce (how people did business there), and how the community developed over many years. It's like a protected area that helps us remember the past.
