Lior Eliyahu (Hebrew: לִיאוֹר אֱלִיָּהוּ; born on September 9, 1985) is a former professional basketball player from Israel. He is 2.06 meters (6 feet 9 inches) tall and weighs 105 kilograms (225 pounds). Lior played as a power forward. He was recognized as the most valuable player (MVP) of the Israeli Basketball Premier League in both 2012 and 2015.

Early Life
Lior Eliyahu is Jewish. He was born in Ramat-Gan, a city in Israel.
Professional Basketball Journey
Eliyahu started playing basketball in the youth system of Maccabi Ironi Ramat Gan. To improve his skills, he moved to the Galil team for the 2004–05 season. This move helped him a lot, especially with guidance from coach Oded Katash.
After the 2005–06 season, Eliyahu decided to enter the 2006 NBA draft. This was a big step for his career. He impressed many people at special training camps in Europe. He also played well in games against NBA teams. During the EuroLeague 2006–07 season, he scored an average of 10.8 points per game.
In December 2008, Eliyahu made history. He became the first Israeli player to be named the EuroLeague MVP of the Month. He achieved a "double-double" (scoring double digits in two different stats, like points and rebounds) in all three games he played that month. For the entire 2008–09 EuroLeague season, he averaged 14.0 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
In 2009, Eliyahu signed a four-year contract with Caja Laboral, a Spanish team. He helped his new team win the Spanish national championship in 2010. He scored 18 points in the final game against Barcelona.
In September 2010, he returned to Maccabi Tel Aviv. He signed a five-year contract with them. He was named the Israeli Basketball Premier League MVP in 2012.
In November 2013, he joined Hapoel Jerusalem. He signed a three-year deal with them. In 2015, he helped Hapoel Jerusalem win their first-ever Israeli championship. He was again named the Israeli Basketball Premier League MVP in 2015.
Eliyahu won another championship with Hapoel Jerusalem in 2017. In January 2016, he extended his contract with the team for three more years.
On May 10, 2018, Eliyahu had an amazing game. He made a career-high 15 assists, along with 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. This helped his team win against Hapoel Eilat. He was named the Israeli League Round 30 MVP for his performance.
On August 23, 2018, Eliyahu became the new team captain for Hapoel Jerusalem. He took over from Yotam Halperin.
On July 26, 2019, Eliyahu signed with Maccabi Ashdod for the 2019–20 season. He joined his former coach, Brad Greenberg, there. On October 21, 2019, Eliyahu scored a season-high 22 points. He also had seven rebounds and seven assists. This helped Ashdod win against Hapoel Tel Aviv. He was named the Israeli League Round 3 MVP.
NBA Draft Selections
On June 28, 2006, Lior Eliyahu was chosen by the Orlando Magic as the 44th pick in the 2006 NBA draft. This was big news in Israel. Later, his draft rights were traded to the Houston Rockets.
On June 26, 2012, the Minnesota Timberwolves traded for Eliyahu's draft rights from the Houston Rockets.
On July 9, 2019, his draft rights were traded again. This time, they went to the Golden State Warriors.
Playing for Israel
Eliyahu was an important player for the senior Israel national team. He played in several EuroBasket tournaments, including in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017.
On May 8, 2018, Eliyahu announced that he would retire from playing for the Israel national team.
