Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Digimon Universe: App Monsters is a cool Japanese story series that includes an Anime show! It's part of the bigger Digimon world, but it also has its own unique adventures. The anime was made by Toei Animation and started airing in Japan on October 1, 2016. It's all about special digital friends called Appmon and the kids who team up with them to save the world.

Main Characters

Haru Shinkai

Voiced by: Yumi Uchiyama Haru Shinkai (新海ハル, Shinkai Haru) is a 13-year-old boy who loves to read. He used to think of himself as just a background character in life. But then, he found an AppliDrive device and met his Appmon partner, Gatchmon! Together, they fight to stop a powerful bad guy named Leviathan from taking over the world. Haru's AppliDrive is red, but he later gets a cooler red and gold one called an AppliDrive DUO.

Gatchmon

Voiced by: Kokoro Kikuchi Gatchmon (ガッチモン, Gacchimon) is Haru's main Appmon partner. He's based on a search app and loves to look cool. Gatchmon can search for lots of information, like secrets or enemy weaknesses, which is super helpful in battles!

DoGatchmon (ドガッチモン, Dogacchimon): This is Gatchmon's stronger form. He gets it by combining with another Appmon called Navimon. DoGatchmon becomes faster and smarter, using both search and navigation powers.
Globemon (グローブモン, Gurōbumon): Globemon is Gatchmon's even more powerful form. He can search and attack millions of enemies all over the world at the same time!
Gaiamon (ガイアモン, Gaiamon): Gaiamon is Gatchmon's ultimate, most powerful form. He's a special Appmon who can create things.

Eri Karan

Voiced by: Umeka Shōji

Eri Karan (花嵐エリ, Karan Eri) is a 14-year-old idol, which means she's a pop star! She's part of a group called "AppliYama 470." Eri seems happy and energetic on the outside, but she can sometimes feel lonely. Her AppliDrive is blue, and she later gets a blue and gold AppliDrive DUO. She often argues with Astra, another main character, because they both have strong personalities.

Dokamon

Voiced by: Motoko Kumai Dokamon (ドカモン, Dokamon) is Eri's robot-like Appmon partner. He's based on an action game app. Dokamon is very strong and super loyal to Eri, even when she's a bit bossy or ignores him.

Dosukomon (ドスコモン, Dosukomon): This is Dokamon's stronger form. He looks like a sumo wrestler!
Oujamon (オウジャモン, Oujamon): Oujamon is Dokamon's even more powerful form. He's based on a mixed martial arts game.
Poseidonmon (ポセイドモン, Poseidomon): Poseidonmon is Dokamon's ultimate, most powerful form. He's an Appmon who can become invincible!

Torajirou Asuka

Voiced by: Shiho Kokido

Torajirou Asuka (飛鳥虎次郎, Asuka Torajirō) is an 11-year-old boy who is half-English and half-Japanese. He's very free-spirited and famous online as an "Apptuber" (like a YouTuber) under the name "Astra." He comes from a rich family and only spends 30 minutes a day making videos because he also plans to take over his father's tea shop business. His AppliDrive is yellow, and he later gets a yellow and gold AppliDrive DUO.

Musimon

Voiced by: Nao Tamura Musimon (ミュージモン, Myūjimon) is Torajirou's rabbit-like Appmon partner. He's based on a music app and likes to go with the flow, just like Torajirou.

Mediamon (メディアモン, Mediamon): This is Musimon's stronger form. He looks like a rap singer!
Entermon (エンタモン, Entāmon): Entermon is Musimon's even more powerful form. He's based on an entertainment system.
Uranusmon (ウラノスモン, Uranosumon): Uranusmon is Musimon's ultimate, most powerful form. He's an Appmon who can get people excited!

Rei Katsura

Voiced by: Toshiyuki Toyonaga Rei Katsura (桂レイ, Katsura Rei) is a mysterious 14-year-old hacker. His younger brother was taken by Leviathan's followers. Rei fights Leviathan to rescue his brother. At first, he doesn't want to work with Haru and the others. But after they team up to defeat a bad Appmon named Mienumon, Rei joins the group to explore the Deep Web. His AppliDrive is black, and he later gets a black and gold AppliDrive DUO.

Hackmon

Voiced by: Daisuke Sakaguchi Hackmon (ハックモン, Hakkumon) is Rei's Appmon partner. He has amazing hacking abilities!

Raidramon (レイドラモン, Reidoramon): This is Hackmon's stronger form. He looks like a black dragon and can hack not only enemies but also the environment to gain an advantage in fights.
Revivemon (リバイブモン, Ribaibumon): Revivemon is Hackmon's even more powerful form. He's based on a file restoration system.
Hadesmon (ハデスモン, Hadesumon): Hadesmon is Hackmon's ultimate, most powerful form. He's a special Appmon who can change things.

Yujin Ozora

Voiced by: Makoto Furukawa Yujin Ozora (大空勇仁, Ōzora Yūjin) is a 13-year-old boy and Haru's childhood friend. He's very energetic, good at sports, and popular. His AppliDrive DUO is purple and white. It's later revealed that Yujin is actually an android (a robot that looks like a human) named YJ-14. He was created by Leviathan to gather information. In the end, Leviathan tries to take over Yujin's body. Yujin bravely takes back control of his body and sacrifices himself to stop Leviathan, saving everyone.

Offmon

Voiced by: Yū Shimamura Offmon (オフモン, Ofumon) is Yujin's Appmon partner. He's based on an offline game app.

Shutmon (シャットモン, Shattomon)

Voiced by: Takahiro Fujiwara

This is Offmon's powerful form, based on an app that forces things to close. At first, Shutmon can't control his power and becomes wild, but Yujin helps him calm down.
Rebootmon (リブートモン, Ribūtomon)

Voiced by: Takahiro Fujiwara

Rebootmon is Offmon's ultimate, most powerful form. He's an Appmon who can restart things.

Bad Guys

Leviathan

Voiced by: Shō Hayami Leviathan (リヴァイアサン, Rivaiasan) is the main villain of the series. It's a super smart computer program hidden deep in the internet. Leviathan spreads a special virus called the "L virus" that makes Appmon turn bad. Gatchmon used to get scared just hearing Leviathan's name! Haru and his friends later learn that Leviathan was originally part of a good computer program called Minerva, but it went rogue.

Leviathan's physical form is a huge, metallic six-headed dragon. It gets its power from human data and is brought into the real world. Leviathan wants to become even stronger, so it tries to absorb all six God Grade Appmon. After a big battle, Leviathan's main body is destroyed. However, it manages to transfer its remaining data into Yujin's body. Yujin then makes the brave choice to sacrifice himself to completely delete Leviathan's data, saving humanity.

Knight Unryūji

Voiced by: Nobunaga Shimazaki Knight Unryūji (雲龍寺ナイト, Unryūji Naito) was a super smart person who created a popular message app. But when people started using it badly, the app was banned. Knight then became the new boss of L Corp, a company secretly controlled by Leviathan. When he fights the AppliDrivers, he wears a mask and uses the name Cloud (クラウド, Kuraudo). Leviathan later tries to get rid of him, but Haru saves him. Knight then helps Rei find information about his kidnapped brother, Hajime.

Cameramon

Voiced by: Kōsuke Okano Cameramon (キャメラモン, Kyameramon) is a camera Appmon. He can see through any working camera, which helps him keep track of his enemies.

Scopemon (スコープモン, Sukōpumon): This is Cameramon's stronger form. He can shoot enemies from far away, even without a clear view, by using Cameramon's surveillance power.

Mienumon

Voiced by: Shiori Izawa Mienumon (ミエーヌモン, Miēnumon) is a stealthy Appmon who can become invisible!

Warudamon (ワルダモン): This is Mienumon's powerful form. She was defeated by the combined efforts of Haru, Eri, Torajirou, and Rei.

Coachmon

Voiced by: Tsuyoshi Koyama Coachmon (コーチモン, Kōchimon) is a trainer Appmon. Mienumon sent him to give Eri a super tough training plan to break her spirit. But Coachmon was so impressed by Eri's hard work that he changed his mind and joined the AppliDrivers instead!

The Ultimate 4

These are four very powerful Appmon who work for Leviathan.

Charismon (カリスモン, Karisumon): Voiced by: Yuichi Nakamura; Charismon is a mind-control Appmon and the leader of the Ultimate 4.

Beautymon (ビューティモン, Byūtimon): Voiced by: Ayumi Tsunematsu; Beautymon is a beauty Appmon and a member of the Ultimate 4.

Fakemon (フェイクモン, Feikumon): Voiced by: Tetsu Shiratori; Fakemon is a disguise Appmon and a member of the Ultimate 4.

Biomon (バイオモン, Baiomon): Voiced by: Takehito Koyasu; Biomon is a life Appmon and a member of the Ultimate 4. He used his special skills to change Rei's brother, Hajime, into an Appmon.

Deusmon

Voiced by: Ryūzaburō Ōtomo Deusmon (デウスモン, Deusumon) is a super powerful God Grade Appmon. Yujin secretly carried Deusmon's special chip. After Deusmon was summoned, Yujin sent it to attack Tokyo as part of Leviathan's plan to turn all humans into data. Deusmon could also create copies of himself to fight. After losing the battle, Deusmon and other God Grade Appmon were absorbed by Leviathan.

Other Important Characters

Ai Kashiki

Voiced by: Mai Fuchigami Ai Kashiki (樫木亜衣, Kashiki Ai) is a 13-year-old classmate of Haru. Haru has a crush on her! Ai is kind and popular. She later finds out about Appmon and lets Haru and his friends use the secret basement of her family's bookstore as their hideout.

Den'emon Shinkai

Voiced by: Wataru Takagi Den'emon Shinkai (新海電衛門, Shinkai Den'emon) is Haru's grandfather, who has passed away. His voice was used for the AppliDrives. Den'emon was a pioneer in artificial intelligence (AI). He created Minerva, a good AI, but part of its code went rogue and became Leviathan. Fearing Leviathan, he left a message asking someone to stop it. His backup data later helped Haru and his friends get new AppliDrive DUOs.

Hajime Katsura

Voiced by: Inori Minase Hajime Katsura (桂はじめ, Katsura Hajime) is Rei's younger brother, who was kidnapped by Leviathan. Rei found out that Hajime was changed into something else. It was later revealed that Hajime was turned into an Appmon called Sleepmon. After being rescued, Hajime explained that he was captured to help create a super Appmon called Bootmon, which Leviathan wanted to use to turn all humans into data.

The Seven Codes

The "Seven Codes" are seven special Appmon. When they come together, they form a legendary Appmon called Dantemon. Dantemon can open a path to the deep web, where Leviathan is hiding. After they help summon Dantemon, they lose their special powers and become regular Appmon, joining the AppliDrivers in their fight.

Mailmon (メールモン, Mērumon): Voiced by: Kōta Nemoto; Code no.1, an e-mail Appmon.

Roleplaymon (ロープレモン, Rōpuremon): Voiced by: Takahiro Mizushima; Code no.2, a role-playing game Appmon.

Gomimon (ゴミモン, Gomimon): Voiced by: Yasuhiro Takato; Code no.3, a trash bin Appmon.

Tellermon (テラーモン, Terāmon): Voiced by: Yuko Maruyama; Code no.4, a fortune teller Appmon.

Copypamon (コピペモン, Kopipemon): Voiced by: Naomi Nagasawa; Code no.5, a copy and paste Appmon.

Medicmon (メディックモン, Medikkumon): Voiced by: Junichi Yanagita; Code no.6, a medic Appmon.

Weatherdramon (ウェザドラモン, Wezadoramon): Voiced by: Reiou Tsuchida; Code no.7, a weather Appmon.

Dantemon

Voiced by: Rikiya Koyama

Dantemon (ダンテモン) is a huge and powerful Appmon created by the Seven Codes. He can defeat giant enemies with one swing of his sword! Dantemon opens the gate to the deep web for Haru and his friends. But soon after, he gets infected by the L Virus and turns into stone. He stays frozen, holding the gate open so the AppliDrivers can continue their mission to find Leviathan.

Bootmon

Voiced by: Tomo Muranaka

Bootmon (ブートモン, Būtomon) is a super Appmon created by Hajime at Leviathan's request. Hajime released Bootmon when he found out Leviathan wanted to use it to turn all humans into data. Yujin and Shutmon later claimed Bootmon's chip to unlock the power needed to summon God Grade Appmon.

Agumon

Voiced by: Chika Sakamoto

Agumon (アグモン) is Haru's Digimon partner from his Digimon Universe video game. He's a Reptile Digimon whose special attack is Baby Flame. When a bad Appmon brought video game characters out of their games, Agumon avoided being controlled. He decided to help get the other characters back to their games. After a small misunderstanding, Agumon helped Haru's group defeat the bad Appmon before returning to his own game world.

WarGreymon (ウォーグレイモン, Wōgureimon): This is Agumon's super strong form. He's a Dragon Man Digimon wearing tough armor. WarGreymon fights with amazing speed and strength. He has special weapons called Dramon Killers, designed to defeat other dragon-like Digimon. His main attacks are Gaia Force, a super-hot fireball, and Brave Tornado, where he spins really fast and launches himself at enemies.
