Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Pokémon Adventures, known in Japan as Pocket Monsters Special (ポケットモンスター SPECIAL, Poketto Monsutā SPECIAL), is an exciting Japanese manga series. It's published by Shogakukan and tells stories based on most of the Pokémon video games from Nintendo. Because of this, the main characters in the manga often have the same names as the main characters in the games. The manga sometimes has delays because the creators need to see the new games before they can continue the story.

Hidenori Kusaka writes the series. Mato drew the first nine volumes, and Satoshi Yamamoto has been drawing it since the tenth volume. In Japan, Shogakukan has released the individual chapters in tankōbon (book) format. The first one came out on August 8, 1997. So far, 52 tankōbon have been released.

Viz Media is the company that publishes the English version in the United States. Viz first released volumes from July 6, 2000, to January 2003. They also put out special "Best of Pokémon Adventures" books in 2006. On June 1, 2009, Viz started publishing the tankōbon volumes again. These newer English releases sometimes have small changes to the pictures and words compared to the original Japanese versions.

Sapphire's message helps summon the legendary Regi trio (Registeel, Regirock, and Regice) to fight the angry Ancient Pokémon. Ruby and Sapphire are taken to Mirage Island. There, Wallace's father, Juan, along with Gym Leaders Tate and Liza, train them to control Kyogre and Groudon. During their training, Ruby and Sapphire learn to absorb the special orbs from their previous owners. Sapphire then tells Ruby she has feelings for him, and they remember being friends as babies. Ruby feels the same way and leaves with Courtney to stop Kyogre and Groudon, worried about Sapphire. Meanwhile, with Wally's help, Norman awakens the third Ancient Pokémon, Rayquaza, and heads to help Ruby.

Ruby and Courtney reach the two Ancient Pokémon. However, Maxie traps Courtney inside a shrine, which then collapses due to the battle. Norman arrives with Rayquaza, taking Courtney's place to help Ruby stop the Ancient Pokémon. Their attack works, sending the Ancient Pokémon back to their homes. But Norman and Steven sacrifice themselves by controlling the Ancient Pokémon without the special orbs. Maxie and Archie reappear to take the orbs again and fight their enemies. Inspired by Feebas returning (and evolving into Milotic), Ruby teams up with Sapphire to defeat Maxie and Archie. Ruby then releases his sixth Pokémon, Celebi, who uses its power to change the future, bringing everyone who was lost back. Right after, Ruby and Sapphire finish their 80-day challenge and celebrate Sapphire's birthday. The story then moves to Kanto, where Red and Blue learn that Professor Oak has vanished, leaving a message telling them to give up their Pokédexes.

Archie's body breaks apart because he used the blue orb too much, and the armor was supposed to protect him. After Archie disappears, Scott uses Jirachi's last wish to bring more visitors to the Battle Frontier. Red decides to join a tournament with all the Pokédex holders. In the end, Emerald conquers all the Battle Frontier facilities.

After capturing Heatran, Team Galactic scientist Charon goes to Eterna City, where the legendary Pokémon Giratina has appeared. There, he makes Heatran fight with Regigigas, which was with Diamond. Diamond is hit by Giratina and disappears. Charon soon follows Giratina into the Distortion World. Team Galactic's three commanders chase after him. Platinum, having gathered all the information she can, heads to the Distortion World with some friends and even a former enemy. Pearl joins her there, having learned where Diamond is. Diamond wakes up in the Distortion World and teams up with Cyrus, who also ended up there, to free Dialga and Palkia. Platinum's real bodyguards are found. Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, all their allies, Cyrus, and the three commanders discover that Charon lured all the legendary Pokémon to the Distortion World to control them. He then tries to leave the Distortion World and trap everyone else inside. When he arrives in the real world, Cynthia, who has fought Team Galactic before, stops him. In the end, everyone inside the Distortion World safely returns to the real world. Cyrus disbands Team Galactic, and Looker arrests Charon for good.
