Dadra and Nagar Haveli are two areas in western India. They were once ruled by another country, but they became free in 1954. After gaining freedom, they officially joined India in 1961. For many years, they were a special kind of state called a union territory. This means they were directly managed by the central government of India.

A Special Leader: The One-Day Prime Minister

After Dadra and Nagar Haveli became free in 1954, there was a special leader for a very short time. His name was K. G. Badlani. On August 11, 1961, he was appointed as the Prime Minister of the territory.

He held this important position for only one day! During that day, he signed an agreement with Jawaharlal Nehru, who was the Prime Minister of India at the time. This agreement officially made Dadra and Nagar Haveli a part of India.

What is an Administrator?

Before Dadra and Nagar Haveli joined with Daman and Diu, it had a leader called an Administrator. An Administrator is like a governor for a union territory. They are chosen by the central government of India to manage the area. They make sure everything runs smoothly, from schools to roads.

The Administrator of Dadra and Nagar Haveli often also managed Daman and Diu. The last Administrator for Dadra and Nagar Haveli before the merger was Praful Khoda Patel. His role ended when the two territories became one in January 2020.
