Praful Khodabhai Patel (born 28 August 1957) is an Indian politician. He currently serves as the top official, called an administrator, for two special areas of India. These areas are known as union territories. They are Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, and Lakshadweep.

Praful Patel's Early Political Steps
Praful Patel started his journey in politics by winning an election in 2007. He became a member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. This assembly is like a state parliament for Gujarat. He represented the Himatnagar area.
- His father, Khodabhai Ranchhodbhai Patel, was a respected leader.
- This connection helped Praful Patel in his early political career.
Serving as a State Minister
In 2010, Praful Patel became a Minister of State for Home Affairs in Gujarat. He worked under the then Chief Minister, Narendra Modi. This was an important role in the state government.
Changes in Gujarat Politics
After serving as a minister, Praful Patel ran for re-election in 2012. However, he did not win this election. This meant his time in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly came to an end.
Leadership in Union Territories
After Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of India in 2014, Praful Patel was given new responsibilities. These roles were in India's union territories.
- In 2016, he was appointed as the Administrator of Daman and Diu.
- Soon after, he also became the Administrator of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
A New Kind of Administrator
Historically, people who held these administrator positions were usually experienced government officers. However, Praful Patel was one of the first politicians to be appointed to such roles. This was a new approach to governing these territories.
Leading Merged Territories
On January 26, 2020, two union territories, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, were combined. They became one larger union territory called Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Praful Patel became the very first administrator of this newly formed territory.
Taking on More Responsibility
Later in 2020, Praful Patel took on even more duties. On December 5, 2020, he also became the Administrator of the Lakshadweep union territory. He took on this additional role after the previous administrator, Dineshwar Sharma, passed away.
