List of botanical gardens and arboretums in the United States facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

A botanical garden is like a special outdoor museum for plants! It's a place where many different kinds of plants are grown, studied, and shown to the public. These gardens help us learn about plants from all over the world. An arboretum is similar, but it focuses mostly on trees and shrubs. Both are super important for protecting plants and teaching people about nature.

The U.S.A. has many amazing botanical gardens and arboretums. Depending on how you count them, there are between 296 and 1014 of these green spaces! Together, they care for about 600,000 living plants. These collections include around 90,000 different types of plants, which is about 40,000 different species. It's pretty cool that about 70% of these plant collections were started before the Convention on Biological Diversity, showing how long people have cared about plant conservation.
