List of disc golf courses in Ontario facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Disc golf is a fun sport that's a lot like regular golf, but instead of hitting a ball into a hole, you throw a special disc (like a frisbee!) into a metal basket. It's played on courses designed for disc golf, and Ontario has many places where you can try it out!

As of April 2022, there are 85 known disc golf courses across Ontario. These courses are listed on the official PDGA Course Directory. This means they are recognized places to play the sport.

How Many Courses Are There?

Out of the 85 courses in Ontario, 52 are full-size courses. These have 18 holes or even more, just like a traditional golf course. The other 33 courses are smaller, with fewer than 18 holes. These shorter courses are great for quick games or for beginners learning the sport.

Ontario has about 5 courses for every million people. This is a bit less than the average for all of Canada. But new courses are always being built, so this number can change!

Oldest and Newest Courses

Disc golf has been played in Ontario for a long time. Some of the oldest courses opened way back in the 1980s! For example, Centennial Park in Toronto and Toronto Island Park Disc Golf Course both opened in 1980. The Ontario Pioneer Camp in Port Sydney opened in 1989.

Many new courses have also opened recently. In 2021 and 2022 alone, several new places to play were added. These include Abbey Gardens Disc Golf Trail in Haliburton, Dellwood Park Disc Golf Course in Mississauga, and Wolf Tracks @ Bondi in Dwight. This shows that disc golf is growing in popularity across the province!

Where Can You Play?

Disc golf courses are found all over Ontario, from big cities to smaller towns and even in parks and conservation areas. Here are just a few examples of places where you can find a course:

  • In cities like Toronto, Mississauga, Ottawa, and Thunder Bay.
  • In smaller communities like Haliburton, South River, and Bracebridge.
  • At places like provincial parks, conservation areas, and even some ski resorts or campgrounds.

Each course offers a unique experience, with different layouts and challenges. Some courses are flat and open, while others might have lots of trees or hills. It's a great way to explore different parts of Ontario while having fun!
