List of districts in Tripura facts for kids
Tripura is a small state in India, located in the northeastern part of the country. It shares its borders with Bangladesh and the Indian states of Assam and Mizoram. For many centuries, the area of modern Tripura was ruled by the Tripuri dynasty. It was a special "princely state" during the time of British rule in India, and it joined independent India in 1949.
After joining India, there were some disagreements between the local people and the Bengali population who had moved there. However, setting up a special tribal administrative group and other plans have helped bring peace. Tripura was first divided into 4 districts, but on January 21, 2012, four new districts were added, making a total of 8 districts in the state.
Tripura's Eight Districts
To help manage the state better, Tripura is divided into 8 districts. It also has 23 smaller areas called subdivisions and 58 development blocks. This new system started on January 21, 2012. The four new districts created were Khowai, Unakoti, Sipahijala, and Gomati.
