The United States Hockey Hall of Fame is a special place that keeps the history of ice hockey in the United States alive. It also celebrates amazing players, coaches, and teams who have made a big difference in American hockey. This Hall of Fame was started in 1973 and is found in Eveleth, Minnesota, a town in northern Minnesota known for iron mining.

Honoring Hockey Heroes

The Hall of Fame honors people who have made huge contributions to hockey in the United States. As of 2020, there were 192 members who had been welcomed into the Hall. New members are added every year. They are chosen because of the great things they did for hockey during their careers.

How Are Members Chosen?

Each year, people can suggest individuals or teams to be considered for the Hall of Fame. These suggestions are sent to a special committee called the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Selection Committee. This committee carefully looks at each person or team suggested. After a lot of thought, the committee votes to pick the newest members for the Hall of Fame.

Exploring the Museum

The United States Hockey Hall of Fame Museum is often called the "National Shrine of American Hockey." It is dedicated to remembering these hockey legends and showing off important memories from U.S. hockey history. The museum opened in 1973 in Eveleth, Minnesota. Its main goal is to save and share America's exciting hockey story.

What You Can See at the Museum

Inside the museum, you'll find the "Great Wall of Fame." This wall displays plaques for all the people who have been inducted. There are also displays that show the history of American hockey at all different levels. You can watch videos, try out interactive games, and learn about the sport through special traveling programs. The museum truly captures the spirit and excitement of hockey. It proudly shares the many traditions of the sport with fans across the country.

The World's Largest Hockey Stick

In downtown Eveleth, you can see something really cool: the "world's largest authentic hockey stick." It's a Christian Brothers hockey stick that is over 110 feet (about 33.5 meters) long and weighs more than 10,000 pounds (about 4,536 kilograms)!

The Wayne Gretzky International Award

In 1999, the Hall of Fame created the Wayne Gretzky International Award. This award celebrates people from other countries who have made a big impact on growing and improving ice hockey in the United States. It's a special award for their lifetime achievements.
