Public Art in Anderson

Anderson is home to several interesting public artworks.

Charlie Ingersoll & Gertrude Pauline Hilligoss

You can find these two figures at Maplewood Cemetery. They were created in 1892, but the artist is unknown. The figures are made from marble and limestone.

Christ the Good Shepherd

This limestone sculpture is located at Mounds Baptist Church. It was made around 1955 by an artist named K. Williams.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

At Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, you'll see a bronze sculpture of Martin Luther King, Jr.. He was a very important leader in the American Civil Rights Movement, working for equal rights for all people. This sculpture was created in 1988 by Kenneth G. Ryden.

Helios

If you visit Anderson University, specifically near Hartung Hall, you can see "Helios." This unique sculpture is made of steel and glass. It was created in 1993 by Arlon Bayliss.

John Arch Morrison Commemorative Sculpture

Also at Anderson University, there's a bronze sculpture honoring John Arch Morrison. This piece was made in 1988 by Kenneth G. Ryden, the same artist who created the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. sculpture.

Passages

Another artwork at Anderson University, located at the Krannert Fine Arts Center Hall, is called "Passages." This sculpture is made from Cor-Ten Steel, a type of steel that develops a rust-like appearance over time. It was created in 1987 by artist Jim Johnson.

Public Art in Chesterfield

The town of Chesterfield also has some public art to explore.

Trail of Religion

At Camp Chesterfield, you can find the "Trail of Religion." This artwork consists of 10 busts, which are sculptures of heads and shoulders. They are made from marble and have some paint details. The "Trail of Religion" was created in 1943 by Ivan Adams.
