The "Aging Speaker" Role

When a new term of Parliament begins, and before a new Speaker is officially chosen, a special temporary Speaker takes charge. This person is called the "Aging Speaker" (in Persian, Raiis-e Sen-e Majlis). This role is given to the oldest member of the Parliament. The second oldest member becomes their temporary helper, called the Deputy. Also, the two youngest members of Parliament become temporary secretaries. This tradition helps the new Parliament get organized smoothly.
