List of tallest buildings in Spokane facts for kids
The city of Spokane is in eastern Washington. It's a big city and a main center for shopping and services in the Inland Northwest part of the United States. As of 2022, Spokane has 40 high-rise buildings. These tall buildings started appearing in 1891, not long after the Great Spokane Fire in 1889. The first one was the Review Building, which was 146 feet tall and made of brick and stone.
A long time ago, the word skyscraper meant buildings that were about 10 to 20 stories high. They were built with very thick stone walls. Today, a skyscraper usually means a much taller building, often more than 40 or 50 stories. These modern skyscrapers are possible because they use a strong metal frame, usually steel, which can support many more floors. Because of this new way of building, more skyscrapers started to appear in Spokane in the early 1900s.
The U.S. Bank Building, finished in 1910, and the Paulsen Medical and Dental Building, finished in 1929, were some of Spokane's first skyscrapers. Each of them held the record for being the tallest building in the city for a time. The U.S. Bank Building was even the tallest building in all of Washington state when it was first built! Today, the tallest building in Spokane is the Bank of America Financial Center. It was finished in 1981 and is 288 feet tall. It has been the tallest building for over 40 years. Even though some taller buildings have been planned, they haven't been built yet.

Spokane's Tallest Buildings
Spokane has 24 high rise buildings that are at least 145 feet tall. This height includes pointy tops and other parts of the building's design, but not antenna masts. The Review Building was Spokane's first tall building in 1891 and was the tallest for about 10 years. Then, the U.S. Bank Building became the tallest in 1910. It held that title until 1929 when the Paulsen Medical and Dental Building took its place. Finally, in 1981, the Bank of America Financial Center became the tallest, and it still holds that record today.
