Little Alvin and the Mini-Munks is a fun movie from 2003. It was released straight to DVD. This film is based on the popular Alvin and the Chipmunks TV show from the 1980s.

The movie was created by Janice Karman and produced by Ross Bagdasarian. Jerry Rees directed it. Bagdasarian Productions made the film. Paramount Home Entertainment released it. In this movie, the Chipmunks and the Chipettes are shown using puppets. This was the last direct-to-video movie for the Chipmunks for a while.

Story of the Mini-Munks

The movie begins at a magical cottage. La-Lu, a friend of David Seville, is getting ready for visitors. She puts up a "Welcome Chipmunks" banner. Her friend Gilda, a talking cockatoo, isn't so sure about having kids around. But PC, a talking frog who acts like a surfer dude, thinks kids bring joy.

Arrival at the Cottage

Dave Seville arrives with Alvin, Brittany, Simon, Jeanette, Theodore, and Eleanor. Dave needs a quiet weekend to write a new song. La-Lu is happy to have the five young Chipmunks and baby Eleanor stay with her. Sam and Lou, two gophers, help us understand what the characters are feeling. Alvin misses Dave a lot at first. La-Lu comforts him, explaining that Dave will return soon. They then play fun games like Peter Pan and Captain Hook.

Learning from Mistakes

Later, La-Lu tells a story to Gilda, Alvin, and Brittany. Suddenly, Simon comes in, soaking wet. He says the toilet exploded because of Theodore. La-Lu finds the toilet full of toys and other items. Gilda reminds PC that he was supposed to watch Theodore. Theodore is scared and lies, blaming Gilda. La-Lu calms Theodore down. She explains that everyone makes mistakes. She shares a story about a mistake she made as a child. Even the toilet seems upset! After hearing this, Theodore tells the truth. He promises not to play with the toilet again. La-Lu praises him, then gets him ready for a nap.

Sharing and Earning

While La-Lu entertains baby Eleanor, Brittany complains. She says Jeanette took and ate her lipstick. Alvin and Simon try to sneak Theodore's teddy bear. La-Lu stops them, then opens a shelf full of toys for them. She tells Jeanette that eating lipstick is not good. Also, it wasn't hers to take. Jeanette wants to buy Brittany new lipstick but has no money. La-Lu suggests Jeanette work for her to earn money. Jeanette agrees to this idea.

Playing and Helping

Alvin appears as "Super Alvin," hiding from Simon, who is a magician. Simon wants his cape back. They start to argue. La-Lu steps in. She suggests they find a way to share the cape. Jeanette then enters, ready for work. She wears yellow boots, an apron, and a smog mask. She cleans shoes, makes beds, and dusts furniture. She even scrubs the kitchen floor with sponges on her boots. Jeanette helps La-Lu with groceries and baking muffins. She confuses flour with a flower, which is funny. Soon, Jeanette earns enough money for Brittany's new lipstick.

Imagination and Feelings

Meanwhile, Simon uses a fan to help "Super Alvin" fly. Alvin falls, but they later try to bring Simon's dead plant back to life. It seems to work, but it was Sam and Lou's trick. That night, Dave calls. The children tell him about their day. After a story, everyone falls asleep in La-Lu's bed.

The next day, Alvin and Simon use tin foil to build a spaceship. They pretend to be aliens. Theodore wants to join, but his brothers say no. This makes Theodore sad and angry. He feels like hitting Alvin. La-Lu explains that it's okay to feel upset. But it is never okay to hit others. She shows Theodore a bear-shaped balloon dummy he can hit. Soon, Alvin invites Theodore to play.

Lessons on Honesty

Brittany explains she feels better about everything. Jeanette comes in after cleaning Brittany's oven. Brittany invites Jeanette to their tea party. Gilda tries to teach Eleanor how to be a "proper lady." Simon, Alvin, Theodore, and PC all dress in tin foil. They surprise La-Lu, Brittany, and Jeanette. Everyone runs away from the "monsters." Sam and Lou also surprise Gilda with their tin foil costumes.

Family Love

That night, La-Lu gets Alvin ready for bed. The next day, Alvin, Brittany, Jeanette, and Simon wake La-Lu. They want her to join their band. La-Lu asks them to wait. She needs to care for a fussy Eleanor. After many tries, La-Lu calls the doctor. Eleanor was crying because she needed to burp and have her diaper changed. Alvin starts to feel jealous. He thinks La-Lu is spending too much time with Eleanor.

La-Lu comforts Alvin. She shows him that she has enough love for everyone. They decide to have special time together when Eleanor naps. Alvin also agrees to help with Eleanor. Suddenly, Dave arrives. He has finished his new song. The Chipmunks and Chipettes offer to help him practice. The movie ends with Alvin mischievously turning off the lights. Dave protests, but it's all in good fun.
