Little Billy and the War of 1812

Before the War of 1812 began, on September 8, 1812, Little Billy spoke to Seneca leaders in Buffalo. He encouraged them to join and help the Americans in the upcoming war. He famously said, "The path of peace is broken in every part."

Little Billy showed great courage during the war. He was part of a successful American attack against the British at Fort George, Ontario, on August 17, 1813.

Later Life and Legacy

In 1832 and 1833, the United States government gave Little Billy a special yearly payment of $50. This type of payment is called an annuity.

Little Billy passed away at the Seneca village in Buffalo Creek on December 28, 1834. He was first buried in the Old Mission burying ground in Buffalo. Later, in 1884, his remains were moved and reburied in Buffalo's Forest Lawn Cemetery. He was laid to rest with other important Seneca leaders, including Red Jacket and Young King.

Early Life and Mystery

We don't know exactly when Little Billy was born. However, he was likely very old when he died. Some people believe he was the "Jes-ka-ka-ke" who helped guide George Washington on a trip to Fort Duquesne in 1753. If this is true, it means Little Billy might have been born around 1735.
