It's also known as a census-designated place, which means it's an area identified by the U.S. Census Bureau for statistical purposes. In 2020, about 64 people lived there. Little Cedar has its own post office with the ZIP code 50454.

History of Little Cedar

Little Cedar was first planned out in 1891. When it was first created, it was called "Wheeler." However, there was another place named Wheeler in Iowa. To avoid confusion, the name was changed to Little Cedar.

Population Changes Over Time

The community started very small. In 1902, only 22 people lived in Little Cedar. By 1925, the population had grown quite a bit to 200 people.

Little Cedar is located in the state of Iowa. It is about 11 miles northeast of Osage, which is the main town (or county seat) of Mitchell County.

The land in Little Cedar is about 1,194 feet (364 meters) above sea level. The Little Cedar River flows along the eastern edge of the community. This river flows southeast and eventually joins the larger Cedar River in a town called Nashua. The entire area of Little Cedar is land, covering about 0.53 square miles (1.38 square kilometers).

As of the 2020 census, 64 people lived in Little Cedar. The population has seen a small increase from 2010, when there were 60 residents.
