Little Klickitat Falls is a beautiful waterfall in the state of Washington, USA. It is about 16-foot (4.9 m) tall and flows from the Little Klickitat River. This river eventually joins the larger Klickitat River. The falls are located high up, about 1095 feet above sea level, in a part of central Klickitat County that has steep canyons.

The Little Klickitat River changes a lot throughout the year. Sometimes, especially in drier seasons, the water flow can be very low. But during flood seasons, the Little Klickitat Falls can become very wide, stretching up to 100 feet across! Just a short distance downstream, the Little Klickitat River meets Blockhouse Creek in a unique area called Horseshoe Bend canyon.

About Little Klickitat Falls

Little Klickitat Falls is known for its wide, steep cascade. This means the water flows down a wide, sloped rock face rather than dropping straight down. It's a single drop, making it a powerful sight when the water is high. The average flow of water is around 400 cu ft/s (11 m3/s) during times of high volume.

Where is Little Klickitat Falls?

Little Klickitat Falls is found in Klickitat County, Washington. It is located north of Interstate 84, which is a major highway. You can also find it south of State Route 142, a road that goes from west to east towards a town called Goldendale.

The waterfall is west of U.S. Route 97, another important road that runs near Goldendale. Other highways like Interstate 84 and State Route 14 are about 30 km (19 mi) to the south.

Exploring the Area

Little Klickitat Falls is on private land, so it's important to respect property boundaries. It's located along the Little Klickitat River, not far from where it meets Blockhouse Creek and another waterfall called Blockhouse Falls. The Klickitat River flows through a high desert canyon, which is a very scenic area.

You can reach this area by using roads like Patch Lane from the east or Tupper Road from the west. When the river has a lot of water, the waterfall is wide enough that people can even kayak down it! Kayakers usually go down the far right or far left sides of the falls. The middle part of the falls has some shallow spots. Upstream from the waterfall, there are also several exciting white water rapids.

Access points for the river can be found upstream on Olson Road, which is off Highway 142. Further east, about 10 miles upstream from the waterfall, there's a parking area downstream from a bridge off Hill Road or Esteb Road.
