Little Priest Tribal College is a public college in Winnebago, Nebraska. It is a special kind of college that serves the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska. Most of its students are American Indian. The college is also part of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium.

History

How Little Priest Tribal College Started

The Winnebago Tribal Council wanted to make sure their students had great education. They looked at other colleges, like Nebraska Indian Community College. But they decided a new college would better fit their students' needs.

So, the Winnebago Tribal Council decided to create their own college. They named it Little Priest Tribal College. This name honors Little Priest, an important war chief of the Ho-Chunk people.

The college started offering classes in August 1996. A few years before that, in 1994, it became a "land-grant college." This means it gets special support for education and research.

What You Can Study at Little Priest Tribal College

Little Priest Tribal College offers different types of college degrees. You can earn an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science degree here. These degrees are usually completed in about two years.

Athletics

Sports at Little Priest Tribal College

Little Priest Tribal College (LPTC) has sports teams! They offer Men's and Women's Basketball. The teams are part of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) at the Division II level.

LPTC is also a member of the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). They joined the ICCAC as full members in July 2018.
