Plot: The Story of the March Sisters
This version of Little Women is set in the early 2000s. It follows the lives of four sisters as they grow up and chase their dreams.
- Jo March is passionate and dreams of becoming a writer. She's very independent and decides to move to New York City to pursue her writing career. Later in the story, she marries her professor, Freddy Bhaer.
- Beth March is the quiet and kind sister who loves to play the piano. During the movie, Beth becomes very sick with a serious illness called leukemia. Sadly, Beth does not survive her illness.
- Amy March is artistic and talented. She grows up to become a famous painter, and her art takes her to different parts of the world. She eventually marries Theodore Laurence, who everyone calls "Laurie."
- Meg March is the oldest sister. She wants to have a happy marriage and family, but she also feels a responsibility to help her family financially. She marries Laurie's former tutor, John Brooke, and they have twins.

Getting Started
In April 2017, it was announced that actors Lea Thompson (who plays Marmee) and Lucas Grabeel (who plays Laurie) would be part of the film. This movie was the first one directed by Clare Niederpruem. She also worked on the screenplay (the movie's script) with Kristi Shimek, basing it on Louisa May Alcott's classic novel.
Maclain Nelson and Stephen Shimek were producers for the film, which means they helped manage the project from start to finish. Chris Donahue and Marybeth Sprows were executive producers. They represented the production companies Main Dog Productions and Paulist Productions.
