Lucas Stephen Grabeel (born November 23, 1984) is an American actor and musician. He is best known for playing Ryan Evans in the popular High School Musical movies (2006–2011).

He also appeared in other films like Halloweentown High (2004) and Return to Halloweentown (2006). On TV, he played a young Lex Luthor and Conner Kent in the superhero show Smallville (2006–2011).

In 2011, Lucas released his first music collection called Sunshine. He then starred as Toby Kennish in the TV drama Switched at Birth until 2017. He has also lent his voice to many animated shows. These include Deputy Peck in Sheriff Callie's Wild West (2014–2017) and the main character in Pinky Malinky (2019).

Early Life and Interests

Lucas Grabeel was born in Springfield, Missouri, on November 23, 1984. His parents are Jean and Stephen Grabeel. He went to Logan-Rogersville schools before graduating from Kickapoo High School in 2003.

During school, Lucas played drums for his local church. He also started a singing group called No Treble at Kickapoo High. He loved playing the guitar and accordion. He also enjoyed dancing.

Acting and Music Career

Starting Out: High School Musical

In 2004, Lucas got his first movie role. He played Ethan Dolloway in Halloweentown High. He played this character again in Return to Halloweentown. He also made guest appearances on TV shows like Boston Legal and Veronica Mars.

In 2006, Lucas was cast as Ryan Evans in Disney's High School Musical. Ryan is the twin brother of Sharpay Evans, played by Ashley Tisdale. Lucas returned as Ryan in High School Musical 2 and High School Musical 3: Senior Year.

In 2007, he joined his co-stars for the High School Musical: The Concert tour. Lucas and Ashley Tisdale had several songs together. Their song "I Want It All" was even considered for an Oscar. He also had six songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with his High School Musical co-stars.

Lucas was the first artist to have two new songs on the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time. He also took part in the first Disney Channel Games. He was a co-captain for the green team.

Besides High School Musical, Lucas recorded "You Know I Will" for The Fox and the Hound 2 soundtrack. He also sang his own version of "Go the Distance" from Disney's Hercules. In 2007, he released his own song, "You Got It." He also appeared in the 2008 movie Milk.

Later Projects: Switched at Birth and Voice Acting

In 2009, MTV named Lucas Most Likely to Do Big Things. He also starred in the movie Dancing Ninja. In 2011, he appeared in the 10th season of Smallville. He played Alexander Luthor / Conner Kent.

Since 2011, Lucas has starred in the TV drama Switched at Birth. He plays Toby Kennish, the brother of one of the girls who were switched at birth. In 2014, he started his first voice acting role in an animated series. He voiced Deputy Peck on Sheriff Callie's Wild West. He also voiced Gustav in Dragons: Defenders of Berk. In 2019, Lucas appeared as himself in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

Other Work

In 2007, Lucas Grabeel started his own production company called 14341 Productions. He helps with writing, directing, and producing projects. His company made a TV pilot called Regarding Beauregard. They also created short films like Chuckle Boy and The Dragon. Their work was shown at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.
