Lucas Stephen Grabeel (born November 23, 1984) is an American actor, musician, and producer. He is most famous for playing Ryan Evans in the popular High School Musical movie series.

Besides High School Musical, Grabeel has appeared in other movies like Halloweentown High (2004) and Return to Halloweentown (2006). He also played a young Lex Luthor in the TV show Smallville. From 2011 to 2017, he starred as Toby Kennish in the drama series Switched at Birth. Grabeel is also a talented voice actor, lending his voice to characters like Deputy Peck in Sheriff Callie's Wild West and the main character in Pinky Malinky.

Early Life and School

Lucas Grabeel was born in Springfield, Missouri. He went to Kickapoo High School and graduated in 2003. During his school years, he discovered his love for performing. He played the drums for a local church and even started a men's singing group called No Treble. A cappella groups like this one sing without any background music or instruments. Grabeel also learned to play the guitar and accordion and enjoyed dancing.

The Start of His Career

Grabeel's first movie role was in 2004 as Ethan Dolloway in Halloweentown High. He later played the same character in the next movie of the series, Return to Halloweentown. He also had small roles in TV shows like Boston Legal and Veronica Mars.

In 2006, Grabeel got the role that would make him famous: Ryan Evans in the Disney movie High School Musical. He played the twin brother of Sharpay Evans, who was played by Ashley Tisdale. The movie was a huge success, and he returned for the sequels, High School Musical 2 and High School Musical 3: Senior Year.

The songs from High School Musical were very popular. Grabeel and his co-stars had six songs on the Billboard Hot 100 music chart. He even toured with his castmates for High School Musical: The Concert.

Other Movie and TV Roles

Besides High School Musical, Grabeel worked on many other projects. He was in the animated movie At Jesus' Side, where he voiced a dog named Jericho. He also acted in the independent film Alice Upside Down.

In 2008, he appeared in the movie Milk, which was about the life of Harvey Milk, a leader who fought for equal rights. Grabeel played Danny Nicoletta, a friend and supporter of Milk. That same year, he had a role in the Walt Disney Pictures movie College Road Trip.

From 2011 to 2017, Grabeel starred in the TV drama Switched at Birth. He played Toby Kennish, the brother of one of two girls who were accidentally switched at the hospital when they were born. He also appeared in the superhero show Smallville as a young version of the villain Lex Luthor and as the hero Conner Kent.

Music and Voice Acting

Grabeel is also a musician. He recorded the song "You Know I Will" for the movie The Fox and the Hound 2. He also sang his own version of "Go the Distance" from the Disney movie Hercules for the album DisneyMania 5. In 2007, he released his own song called "You Got It." In 2011, he released an extended play (a short album) called Sunshine.

He has done a lot of voice acting for animated shows. He was the voice of Deputy Peck in Sheriff Callie's Wild West and Gustav in DreamWorks Dragons. In 2019, he voiced the main character in the Netflix show Pinky Malinky. He also made a special appearance as himself in the series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
