Return to Halloweentown is a fun Disney Channel Original Movie. It first aired on October 20, 2006. This movie is the fourth and last one in the Halloweentown series. The story is about Marnie Piper (Sara Paxton). She goes to college at Witch University in Halloweentown. There, some dark forces try to control her special magic.
This film is the only Halloweentown movie without Kimberly J. Brown as Marnie. But many other actors returned. These include Joey Zimmerman, Debbie Reynolds, Judith Hoag, and Lucas Grabeel. The character Sophie Piper is mentioned but does not appear. This movie was the first Disney Channel Original Movie series to have a fourth film. About 7.5 million people watched it when it first aired. The DVD came out on August 28, 2007.

The Story of Return to Halloweentown
Marnie Goes to Witch University
Marnie Piper is 18 years old. She decides to go to Witch University in Halloweentown. She gets a full scholarship for all the good things she has done. Her mom, Gwen (Judith Hoag), is not happy about this. Marnie's brother, Dylan (Joey Zimmerman), has to go with her. Gwen makes him go to keep an eye on Marnie.
Strange Rules at College
The university is not what Marnie expected. Witches and warlocks cannot use magic there. Instead, they learn about Shakespeare and old magic history. Marnie thought she would learn how to use her powers. She feels very sad about this. She meets her old friend Ethan (Lucas Grabeel). She also makes a new friend, Aneesa the Genie (Summer Bishil).
New Enemies and a Mystery Box
Marnie also makes three new enemies. They are the Sinister Sisters: Scarlett (Kristy Wu), Sapphire, and Sage. They are mean, snobby, and tricky witches. They are the daughters of Silas Sinister (Keone Young). Dylan quickly likes them, which is not good.
Marnie finds out that magic is restricted because of her. The university was only for witches and warlocks to learn magic. But when the door between Halloweentown and the human world opened forever, many went to human colleges. So, Witch University started letting other magical creatures join.
The Gift of the Cromwells
Marnie's classes are boring. Then, she finds a mysterious box in the college dungeon. It has "S. Cromwell" written on it. The box appears magically in front of her. But it is locked, and there is no key. Marnie talks to her professor, Miss Periwinkle (Millicent Martin). Periwinkle tells Marnie that "S." stands for Splendora. She says they were very good friends.
Marnie and Dylan learn that the box holds "the Gift." This is a special power only a Cromwell can use. Splendora locked it away many years ago. Meanwhile, the Sinister Sisters use Dylan. They make him do their homework. They also use him to trick Marnie.
Secrets and Time Travel
Later, Ethan tells Marnie about a secret group. His father was part of it. This group is called the Dominion. They want to use Marnie to open the box. But Marnie does not believe him at first.
Marnie then travels back in time. She meets Splendora (also played by Sara Paxton). Marnie wants to learn about the Gift. Splendora explains that the Gift is an amulet. It gives the wearer power to control anyone. Witches are not allowed to use this power. Marnie realizes her principal and Dr. Grogg (Scott Stevenson) are part of the Dominion. Splendora gives Marnie the key to the box. Splendora is actually Marnie's grandmother, Aggie. Her middle name is Agatha, but she dislikes "Splendora." Marnie returns to her time with the key.
The Final Battle
Chancellor Goodwin (Leslie Wing) steals the Gift. She wants the Dominion and the Sinister Sisters to take over Halloweentown. Only a Cromwell can use the Gift. So, the Sinister Sisters turn Dylan into a Border Collie Dog. They want Marnie to obey them. If Dylan is not changed back by Halloween, he will stay a dog forever. They agree to change him back if Marnie controls Halloweentown for them.
Marnie pretends to agree to help them. She uses the Gift to control people at Witch University. But then she tricks them. She has Aneesa trap the Gift in her lamp. With the Gift trapped, Marnie, Dylan, Gwen, and Aneesa destroy the lamp. This destroys the Gift.
The Dominion tries to escape. But Professor Periwinkle stops them. She is actually a secret detective. She works for the Halloweentown Anti-Dominion League. She takes away their magic and arrests them for treason.
After the Fight
The evil Sinister Sisters also lose their powers. Marnie learns that Ethan gave up his powers willingly. He did this after his father was found guilty in the last movie. Marnie and Ethan start a new relationship and go on a date.
The movie ends with Dylan finding out something. Marnie did not destroy the Gift. She left it for him in a book. Spells at Witch University become permanent at midnight. So, the Gift now belongs to Dylan. He is the only person Marnie trusts with its power. He puts the book away, saving the Gift for important uses. A glowing red "S" appears at the end of the film.

- Scott Stevenson as Dr. Grogg, a strict professor at Witch University and a member of the Dominion.
- Christopher Robin Miller as Burp-Urp-Snurt-Pfsfsfsfst III, a goblin that the Sinister Sisters pick on. He was called "Young Troll" in the credits.
