Summer Yasmine Bishil (born July 17, 1988) is an American actress. She became well-known for her role as Jasira in the 2007 film .... For this role, she was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead. Later, she had smaller parts in movies like The Last Airbender (2010) and TV shows such as 90210 (2011). She also starred in the ABC series Lucky 7 (2013). From 2015 to 2020, she played Margo Hanson in the Syfy fantasy drama series The Magicians.

About Summer Bishil's Early Life

Summer Bishil was born in Pasadena, California. She is the youngest of three children. Her mother has Mexican heritage, and her father is of Indian background. In 1991, when Summer was three years old, her family moved to Saudi Arabia. They later moved to Bahrain. In both countries, she and her brother attended British and American schools.

Returning to the United States

After the September 11 attacks in 2001, her family decided to move back to the United States. They settled in a community in San Diego. Summer attended a public high school there for a short time. Returning to the U.S. was not easy for her. She mentioned that some schoolmates were not welcoming due to the tensions after the 9/11 events. She felt it was hard to make friends. Because of these difficulties, her family later moved to Arcadia. There, her mother taught her at home. Summer also took classes at Citrus College in Glendora, California.

Summer Bishil's Acting Career

Summer Bishil began taking acting lessons when she was 14 years old. Within a year, she signed with a manager and an agency. Her first acting job was on the Nickelodeon TV show Just for Kicks. After that, she appeared in several other shows for children.

Breakthrough Role in Film

Summer Bishil's big break came in 2007. She played the main character in Alan Ball's film, .... This movie was based on a novel of the same name. Critics praised her performance. For example, Dana Stevens from Slate said her acting was very real. Bob Strauss, a writer for Los Angeles newspapers, called her "one of the finest natural film actresses." Gary Goldstein of the Los Angeles Times also noted her strong and quiet performance.

In 2009, she filmed Crossing Over. This movie starred famous actors like Harrison Ford and Ashley Judd. Her role in this film also received good reviews. In 2010, she was chosen to play Azula in M. Night Shyamalan's movie The Last Airbender. She was even planned to be a main part of a sequel that was never made.

Television Success

In 2013, Summer Bishil got a lead role as Samira in the ABC drama Lucky 7. This show ran for eight episodes. In late 2014, she was cast as Margo Hanson in the Syfy fantasy series The Magicians.
