Judith Hoag (born June 29, 1963) is an American actress. She is well-known for playing April O'Neil in the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie from 1990. She also played Gwen Cromwell Piper in the popular Disney Channel TV movie series Halloweentown, which ran from 1998 to 2006.

Hoag has also had important roles in several TV shows. These include Cindy Dutton Price in the HBO drama Big Love (2006–2011), Tandy Hampton in the ABC musical drama Nashville (2012–2018), and Stephanie Quinn in the Syfy fantasy series The Magicians (2016–2020).

Early Life and Education

Judith Hoag was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts. When she was a teenager, she went to Walnut Hill School in Natick, Massachusetts. There, she focused on learning how to act. She finished school in 1981.

Judith Hoag started her acting career in 1986. One of her first big roles was in the TV show Loving, where she played Charlotte 'Lotty' Bates Alden. After leaving that show in 1988, she began working on primetime TV shows. The next year, she got a main role in the CBS comedy series Wolf.

In 1990, Hoag starred in the movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. She played the character April O'Neil. This movie was a huge success, earning over $200 million worldwide. After the success of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Hoag appeared in several TV movies. These included Fine Things and Switched at Birth.

Hoag became even more famous for her role as Gwen Cromwell Piper in the Disney Channel Halloweentown movies. She appeared in four films: Halloweentown (1998), Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge (2001), Halloweentown High (2004), and Return to Halloweentown (2006). She once shared that she got the role because the head of Walt Disney Television was a big fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and knew she had played April O'Neil.

She also appeared in movies like Armageddon (1998) and I Am Number Four (2011). Hoag has made over 60 guest appearances on many TV shows. Some of these include Quantum Leap, Roseanne, The Nanny, Murder, She Wrote, The X-Files, Grey's Anatomy, and Criminal Minds.

From 2006 to 2011, Hoag played Cindy Price in the HBO drama series Big Love.

In 2012, Hoag joined the cast of the ABC drama series Nashville. She played Tandy Hampton, who was the daughter of a powerful character named Lamar Wyatt. Tandy often tried to keep the peace between her sister Rayna and her father. Hoag appeared in 40 episodes of the show.

In 2015, Hoag filmed a small part for the movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. Her scene was later cut from the final movie but was included in the home video release. From 2016 to 2020, Hoag had a recurring role in the Syfy fantasy series The Magicians. She also played a supporting role in the 2018 romantic drama film Forever My Girl.

Personal Life

In 1988, Judith Hoag married actor Vince Grant. They had two children together, a son and a daughter. They divorced in 2016. On February 13, 2021, she married Phillip Stone.
