It began airing on CMT on December 15, 2016. The fifth season started on January 5, 2017. The sixth and final season began on January 4, 2018. The series concluded on July 26, 2018. The Story of Nashville's Music Stars

The series begins by showing the competition between Rayna Jaymes and Juliette Barnes. Rayna Jaymes was known as the "Queen of Country Music." But her newest album was not selling well. Her record label suggested she open for Juliette Barnes. Juliette was a popular young singer of country pop.

Juliette saw Rayna as someone who had everything easily. She often tried to make Rayna upset. Rayna did not like Juliette's music style. She quickly said no to a tour together. The two women often disagreed. Each wanted guitarist Deacon Claybourne to join their tour. Deacon was Rayna's bandmate and close friend. Rayna's life became more complex when her father, Lamar Wyatt, encouraged her husband, Teddy Conrad, to run for Mayor of Nashville.

In later seasons, the show followed the lives of country musicians. It focused on three main female characters. These were superstar Rayna Jaymes, rising star Juliette Barnes, and new singer-songwriter Scarlett O'Connor.

From the middle of season five, the story shifted. It focused on rising star Maddie Conrad, Rayna Jaymes' daughter. It also followed Juliette Barnes, whose fame was changing. Other characters also had important storylines.

The sixth season continued with country stars Juliette Barnes and Deacon Claybourne. It also featured the Highway 65 record label family. They worked to keep Rayna Jaymes' dream alive. They pursued their music careers while managing relationships and family. They also dealt with the ever-changing music industry.
