Alexa Ellesse PenaVega (born August 27, 1988) is an American actress. She is famous for playing Carmen Cortez in the Spy Kids movies. She also starred as Julie Corky in the 2004 film Sleepover. In 2009, she played Ruby Gallagher in the TV show Ruby & the Rockits.

Early Life

Alexa Vega was born in Miami, Florida. She spent some of her early years on a ranch in Ocala, Florida.

Her father, Baruch Vega, is a photographer from Colombia. Her mother, Gina Rue, used to be a model.

Alexa has six brothers and sisters. Her sister, Makenzie Vega, is also an actress. When Alexa was four years old, her family moved to California. She was homeschooled during her teenage years.

Career Highlights

In 1996, when she was 8, Alexa played a young girl named Jo Harding in the movie Twister. She also appeared in many TV shows and films. These included ER, Ghost Whisperer, and The Bernie Mac Show.

Alexa became well-known around the world in 2001. This was for her role as Carmen Cortez in the movie Spy Kids. The first Spy Kids movie was a big hit! Because of its success, two more movies were made: Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams and Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over. Alexa did most of her own stunts in these films. In 2011, she returned as an older Carmen Cortez in Spy Kids: All the Time in the World.

In 2004, Alexa filmed two movies: Sleepover and State's Evidence. The next year, she starred in the TV movie Odd Girl Out. In this film, she played a character who was bullied online. In 2006, she was in another TV movie called Walkout. She also finished filming Remember the Daze.

Alexa also performed on Broadway in the musical Hairspray. She played the character Penny. In 2009, she starred as Ruby Gallagher in the TV show Ruby & the Rockits.

In 2012, Alexa played Wick in the movie The Devil's Carnival. She also sang two songs for the movie's soundtrack. She appeared in the TV movie The Pregnancy Project. Alexa also voiced Christina in the cartoon series Unsupervised. She had a guest role on the show Royal Pains. She even appeared in Aerosmith's music video for "Legendary Child".

Between 2013 and 2014, Alexa was in several films. These included 23 Blast, Machete Kills, and The Hunters. She also appeared as herself in the final episode of the TV series Big Time Rush. In 2015, she starred as Lacey in the movie Do You Believe?.

In 2015, Alexa competed on Dancing with the Stars. She was paired with professional dancer Mark Ballas. They finished in 6th place. Her husband, Carlos PenaVega, also competed that season.

Since 2016, Alexa has starred in many Hallmark TV movies. Some of these include Ms. Matched, Destination Wedding, and Christmas Made to Order. In 2019 and 2020, she and her husband Carlos starred in the Picture Perfect Mysteries TV movies. She also starred in The Power Couple.

Personal Life

Alexa Vega married film producer Sean Covel on October 10, 2010. They later divorced in July 2012.

In late 2012, Alexa started dating actor and singer Carlos Pena Jr.. He was a star on the Nickelodeon show Big Time Rush. They met at a Bible study group. They got engaged in August 2013 and married on January 4, 2014, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. They both took PenaVega as their last name.

The couple has a YouTube channel called La Vida PenaVega. They have three children.

Alexa was the maid of honor at Nikki Reed's wedding. Alexa is a Christian and has said that her faith is very important to her.
