Movie Story
The Big Sleepover Challenge
The movie starts on the last day of 8th grade. Julie Corky (Alexa Vega) is having a sleepover. Her best friends Hannah Carlson (Mika Boorem), Farrah James (Scout Taylor-Compton), and Yancy Williams (Kallie Flynn Childress) are there. This sleepover turns into a huge adventure for them.
A group of popular girls, led by Staci Blake (Sara Paxton), challenges Julie and her friends. They propose a scavenger hunt. The prize is a special lunch spot in high school. The winners get to sit by the fountain. The losers have to sit near the school dumpsters.
The Scavenger Hunt Begins
The list for the scavenger hunt is tricky. It includes getting a photo with a date inside a fancy nightclub. They also need an insignia from a security company. Another item is a pair of boxers from Steve Philips (Sean Faris). Plus, they have to dress an Old Navy mannequin with their own clothes.
The girls sneak out of Julie's house. They use Yancy's dad's Hypermini car to travel around. They visit different places to find the items. Along the way, they try to avoid a security guard (Steve Carell). They also try to keep Julie's parents, Gabby (Jane Lynch) and Jay (Jeff Garlin), from finding out they are gone. During the hunt, Steve Philips sees Julie skateboarding. He is very impressed by her.
The Dance and the Winner
Later, both groups meet at the school dance. Both teams have found all the items on the list. Staci suggests a tie-breaker. The group that gets the crown from the homecoming king or queen will win.
Staci sees her boyfriend, Todd (Thad Luckinbill), dancing with another girl. The girl says she has been Todd's girlfriend for six months. Staci and Todd break up. Staci then dances with Russell (Evan Peters), a skateboarder friend of Julie's. Steve Philips is named homecoming king. He chooses Julie as his partner for the victory dance. He gives her the crown, making her friends win the challenge.
Back Home and New Beginnings
After the dance, Julie and Steve are about to kiss. But Julie's brother, Ren (Sam Huntington), calls. He says their mom, Gabby, is coming home. The girls quickly run back to Julie's house. They pretend to be sleeping just as Julie's parents check on them.
The next morning, Gabby talks to Julie. She asks what they did last night. Gabby shows Julie a scarf she dropped at the club. Surprisingly, Gabby isn't mad. She says it's hard to believe how fast Julie is growing up. Julie says goodbye to her friends. She finds Steve waiting in her tree fort. They share a kiss. The movie ends with Staci and her friends in high school. They are eating lunch by the school dumpsters.
