Connie Britton (born Constance Elaine Womack; March 6, 1967) is an American actress. She is known for her roles in popular TV shows and movies.
Connie Britton first appeared in the film The Brothers McMullen in 1995. The next year, she joined the TV show Spin City as Nikki Faber. She also appeared in the sports drama film Friday Night Lights in 2004.
From 2006 to 2011, Britton played Tami Taylor in the TV series Friday Night Lights. Critics loved her performance, and she was nominated for an Emmy Award twice for this role.
In 2011, she starred in the first season of the horror-drama series American Horror Story as Vivien Harmon. She was nominated for another Emmy Award for this role. She later returned to the show for its eighth season.
From 2012 to 2018, Britton played country singer Rayna Jaymes in the musical drama series Nashville. This role earned her more nominations, including an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award.

Early Life and Education
Connie Britton was born Constance Elaine Womack in Boston, Massachusetts. Her father was a physicist. She spent her early childhood in Rockville, Maryland.
When she was seven, her family moved to Lynchburg, Virginia. She attended E. C. Glass High School there and acted in school plays. She studied Asian studies at Dartmouth College. During her first summer, she studied in Beijing, China. Her college roommate was Kirsten Gillibrand, who later became a U.S. Senator.
After college in 1989, Britton moved to New York City. She spent two years studying acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre.
Her Acting Journey
Starting Out: 1995–2005
While studying acting, Britton made her first stage appearance in New York. In 1995, she made her film debut in The Brothers McMullen. After the film's success, she moved to Los Angeles.
After The Brothers McMullen, Britton had a recurring role in the TV show Ellen. She was almost cast in the movie Jerry Maguire (1996) but the role went to Renée Zellweger. In 1996, she started playing Nikki Faber in the sitcom Spin City alongside Michael J. Fox. She also appeared in other films like No Looking Back (1998).
After leaving Spin City, Britton had roles in TV shows like The Fugitive and The West Wing. In 2001, she played Gertrude Temple in a TV movie about Shirley Temple. She also had a recurring role in the show 24 in 2006.
Becoming Well-Known: 2006–2011
Britton starred with Kyle Chandler in the TV series Friday Night Lights. She played Tami Taylor, the wife of a football coach. The show ran for five seasons. Many fans loved her performance in this series. She was nominated for several awards for her role, including two Emmy Awards.
In 2009, Britton appeared in the comedy Women in Trouble. She also co-starred in the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. In 2011, she was in the romantic comedy Conception.

In 2012, Britton signed on to star in and produce the musical drama series Nashville. She played Rayna Jaymes, a famous country singer whose career is slowing down. The show ran for six seasons. In 2017, she appeared in the comedy-drama film Beatriz at Dinner. She also starred in Professor Marston and the Wonder Women. In 2018, she was in The Land of Steady Habits.
Also in 2018, Britton played emergency dispatcher Abby Clark in the first season of the TV series 9-1-1. She returned to American Horror Story for its eighth season, Apocalypse. She also starred as Debra Newell in the true crime series Dirty John, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination. Her recent films include Promising Young Woman (2020) and Luckiest Girl Alive (2022).
In 2021, Britton starred in the HBO series The White Lotus. She received an Emmy nomination for her role. In 2023, she reunited with the showrunner of Friday Night Lights for the Apple TV+ series Dear Edward.
Personal Life
Connie Britton uses her married name as her stage name. She met John Britton at Dartmouth College. They married in 1991 and divorced in 1995.
While at Dartmouth, Britton studied Chinese and lived in Beijing for a summer. She shared this experience with her college roommate, Kirsten Gillibrand.
In November 2011, Britton adopted a son from Ethiopia. In 2012, she moved to Nashville, Tennessee, for her role in the TV show Nashville. In 2023, Britton confirmed she has been in a relationship with TV producer David Windsor for three years.
Her Work for Good Causes
Britton supports the Democratic Party. She supported Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election. She also supported her college roommate, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, in the 2020 presidential primaries.
In 2014, Britton became a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This is an agency that works to fight poverty. In this role, she helps raise awareness about ending extreme poverty and empowering women.
In 2016, Britton was part of a video tribute to the victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting. She also encourages people to make sure they have the right ID to vote.
