Discovering Lobelville's Past
Lobelville was founded in 1854 by a French trader named Henri de Lobel. He originally called the settlement "Lobelsville." Henri de Lobel hoped the Buffalo River would become a busy trading route. He set up a trading post there in the early 1800s.
However, the nearby Tennessee River was much more popular for trade. This made the Buffalo River venture not very profitable. So, Lobelville never grew into a major trading center.
