About Loch Lomond

Loch Lomond is a freshwater lake. It is about 3.2 kilometers (2 miles) long and 0.7 kilometers (0.4 miles) wide. The lake sits at an elevation of 339 meters (1,112 feet) above sea level.

Where is it?

This lake is found in the Algoma District in the northeastern part of Ontario, Canada. It's in an area called the Unorganized North Part, which means it's not part of a specific town or city. It's also located within the Chapleau Crown Game Preserve, a special protected area for wildlife.

How Water Flows In and Out

The main river that flows into Loch Lomond is the Lochalsh River. This river brings water from Glasgow Lake, which is to the west of Loch Lomond.

The water then flows out of Loch Lomond from the east, and it's still called the Lochalsh River! From there, the water travels to Dog Lake. After Dog Lake, it continues its journey through the Dog River, then the Michipicoten River, and finally the Magpie River. All this water eventually reaches Lake Superior, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world!
