Discovering Lochburn Park
Lochburn Park is a special place for football fans. It is a stadium where local teams play their matches. The ground is surrounded by light industrial buildings. It has a unique design with a sunken-level pitch. This means the playing field is lower than the surrounding area.
The Park's Unique Location
The stadium is built on the site of an old quarry. A quarry is a large pit where stone or other materials are dug out of the ground. Before it was a football ground, Lochburn Park was home to the Kelvin Dock Curling Club. Curling is a sport played on ice.
Amazing Upgrades and Improvements
In 1989, a local businessman named Freddie Duda bought Maryhill F.C. He decided to invest a lot of money into Lochburn Park. He spent about £700,000 to make it one of the best grounds in junior football. These improvements included adding bright floodlights. Floodlights allow games to be played even at night. He also added a seated stand for fans to watch comfortably. Plus, a gym with a sauna was built for the players.
Sharing the Football Pitch
Lochburn Park has also been a home for other football teams. This is called ground-sharing. It means more than one team uses the same stadium.
Other Teams at Lochburn
Between 2014 and 2016, BSC Glasgow F.C. also played their games at Lochburn Park. BSC Glasgow was a team in the Scottish Lowland Football League. Later, during the 2018–19 season, Clydebank F.C. shared the stadium. Clydebank is another junior club. They used Lochburn while their usual home ground, Holm Park, was being redeveloped.
