History of Maryhill Football Club
Early Days and Success
Maryhill Football Club started in 1884. They were a "Junior" club, which means they were part of a specific level of football in Scotland. In 1887–88, they reached the final of the Scottish Junior Cup, which is a big competition for Junior teams.
The next year, Maryhill became a "Senior" club. This meant they played at a higher level. They entered the Scottish Cup for three years. However, they didn't get past the second round. They returned to the Junior level in 1894. After that, they had a lot of success. They reached four national cup finals in eight years! They also won a special wartime final in 1940.
Modern Era and Key Moments
After World War II, Maryhill was not one of the biggest Junior clubs. But in the 1990s, a wealthy supporter named Ronnie MacDonald invested in the team. This helped them have a successful period.
The team has played at Lochburn Park since 1897. Their club colours are red and black.
Maryhill FC made national news in April 2017. A player named Gavin Stokes scored a goal in just 2.1 seconds! This was in a home game against Clydebank. It was one of the fastest goals ever recorded in world football history. He kicked the ball from the middle of the field right into the top corner.
In June 2019, it was announced that ICW (Insane Championship Wrestling) became a sponsor for the club. This was an interesting partnership between football and wrestling!
Mark Young became the club's new manager on May 26, 2022. He took over from Ross Wilson.
