Loenen (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈlunə(n)]) was once a special area in the Netherlands. It was called a "municipality" and was located in the Utrecht province. This region is known as the Vechtstreek.
On January 1, 2011, Loenen joined with two other places, Breukelen and Maarssen. Together, they formed a new, larger municipality called Stichtse Vecht.

Loenen's Ancient Golf History
Did you know that Loenen has a cool connection to the game of golf? It's true! Some of the very first mentions of a game similar to golf come from this area.
How "Colf" Was Played in 1297
In the year 1297, a game called "Colf" or "Kolf" was played near a castle in Loenen. This castle was named Kronenburg. Players used a stick to hit a ball. Their goal was to hit the castle door from the Court House in as few tries as possible. This shows how old the idea of hitting a ball with a stick towards a target really is!
