Lojze Zupanc (born September 21, 1906 – died June 2, 1973) was a famous Slovene writer, poet, and journalist. He is best known for his short stories, which were often based on old folktales and other traditional stories from his home country.

About Lojze Zupanc

Lojze Zupanc was born in Ljubljana, which is now in Slovenia, in 1906. He studied to become a teacher in Ljubljana and Maribor. He worked as a teacher in many different places, especially in areas like White Carniola and Kočevje.

During World War II, Lojze Zupanc joined the National Liberation Struggle. This was a group fighting for freedom against the forces occupying Slovenia. In 1943, he was put in jail by the Italian authorities. He wrote about his time in prison in a story called Sonce je umrlo (which means 'The Sun Had Died').

After the war, he continued his work in places like Gornji Grad and Škofja Loka. He retired in 1965 and lived in Škofja Loka until he passed away in 1973.

Lojze Zupanc was recognized for his amazing writing. He won the important Levstik Award two times! In 1957, he won for his collection of stories called Povodni mož v Savinji (The River Merman in the Savinja). Then, in 1971, he won again for his collection Zlato pod Blegošem (Gold Under Mount Blegoš).
