The community of London is very close to London Springs, less than a mile away. London used to have its own post office. This post office operated from 1902 until 1919.

The Amos Post Office

Before it was called London, the post office was named "Amos". It was located about two miles south of the current London area. The Amos post office started in 1898. It was named after John Amos Sutherland, whose father, John Sutherland, was the postmaster.

How London Got Its Name

Later, the post office moved to the community we now know as London. When it moved, its name changed to match the new location. A man named Levi Geer found a mineral spring here. People aren't sure why he decided to name the place "London."

Levi Geer and John Sutherland also ran a general store together. For a while, the post office was even located inside their store.

The Calapooya Mineral Springs Hotel

In 1904, Levi Geer opened a hotel called the Calapooya Mineral Springs Hotel in London. This hotel likely attracted visitors who wanted to experience the mineral springs.
