London Film Museum facts for kids
The London Film Museum is a cool place in London that celebrates British movies! It was started by Jonathan Sands in February 2008. Before it was called the London Film Museum, it had a different name: The Movieum of London. It used to be in a building called County Hall, but in April 2012, it moved to its current spot in Covent Garden.
What You Can See
The museum shows off real items used in movies. You can see original props, costumes, and even parts of film sets! There's also a special area that explains how movies are made, including details about big film studios.
Famous Movie Items
Some of the awesome things you might spot include:
- Costumes and props from many British films.
- Little Nellie, which is a small helicopter (called an autogyro) from the James Bond movie You Only Live Twice.
- A real meteor prop from a Superman movie.
- The famous gong used by the Rank Organisation at the start of their old films.
- Amazing armour created by a famous armour maker, Terry English.
There's also a special hallway where you can learn about how films are made. You might even get to hear from people who work in the movie industry!
Past Exhibitions
The museum has hosted some exciting special shows in the past:
- Ray Harryhausen - Myths & Legends: In 2010, this show featured original creatures from Ray Harryhausen's movies. These included mythical beasts like Pegasus (the winged horse), Medusa (the monster with snake hair), and Talos (a giant bronze robot).
- Charlie Chaplin - The Great Londoner: This exhibition looked at the early life of the famous silent film star Charlie Chaplin. It showed how he grew up in Lambeth, London, and even displayed his actual bowler hat and cane.
James Bond Vehicles
Since March 2014, the museum has been home to a very special exhibition called Bond in Motion. This show features The Largest Official Collection of James Bond Vehicles. You can see many of the cool cars, bikes, and other vehicles used in the James Bond movies. Plus, there are original props from the films too!
