Lone Dybkjær (born May 23, 1940 – died July 20, 2020) was an important Danish politician. She was a member of the Danish Parliament, known as the Folketing, for many years.
She also served as the Minister for the Environment for Denmark. From 1994 to 2004, she was a member of the European Parliament.
Lone Dybkjær's Political Journey
Lone Dybkjær was a member of the Radikale Venstre party. This is a Danish political party that is often seen as being in the middle of the political spectrum.
She represented this party in the European Parliament from 1994 to 2004. Before that, she was a member of the Danish Parliament, the Folketing. While in the Folketing, she became the Minister for the Environment from 1988 to 1990. This was during the time Poul Schlüter was the Prime Minister.
Dybkjær was also part of a special group called the Council of Patrons. This group supported the Asian University for Women (AUW) in Bangladesh. This university helps talented young women from 15 countries across Asia and the Middle East get a good education. Many big organizations, like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, helped start this university.
Her Life and Education
Lone Dybkjær finished high school in 1958 at Rungsted Statsskole. She then went on to study chemistry at the Technical University of Denmark. In 1964, she earned her Master of Engineering degree in chemistry.
In 1994, she married Poul Nyrup Rasmussen. At that time, he was the Prime Minister of Denmark.
Lone Dybkjær passed away in Copenhagen on July 20, 2020, at the age of 80.
