Long Branch Park is a fun public park in Onondaga County, New York. It is located near Syracuse, New York, in the town of Geddes, New York. The park sits right on the northern shore of Onondaga Lake. People sometimes confuse it with Onondaga Lake Park, which is on the eastern and southern sides of the lake.
A Look Back: Long Branch Amusement Park
Long Branch Park wasn't always just a quiet public park. It started as a lively amusement park! In 1882, two brothers named Ben and George Maurer opened it. This exciting place was called Long Branch Amusement Park.
It had lots of cool things to do. There were boxing arenas for sports fans. You could also find an arcade with fun games. A trolley even brought visitors right to the park! Imagine riding a trolley to a fun park.
The amusement park was a popular spot for many years. But sadly, it closed its doors in 1938. After that, the area became the public park we know today.
A Piece of History at Destiny USA
Did you know a piece of the old amusement park is still around? Syracuse has a very large mall called Destiny USA. It is located south of Onondaga Lake. Inside the mall, you can find an original carousel #18 from Long Branch Amusement Park! It is a cool way to see a bit of history from the park.
