History of Longview Mall
Early Days of the Mall
When Longview Mall first opened, it had several main stores. These included Sears, Bealls, J. C. Penney, and Dillard's. Other original stores were H. J. Wilson Co., The Martin Twin Theater, and Selber Brothers. In 1987, Dillard's bought the Selber Brothers stores. They turned them into separate Dillard's stores for men's clothes.
The Mall's Movie Theater
The mall also had a movie theater called The Martin Twin. It opened on May 18, 1978. Each movie screen could seat 350 people. Later, Carmike operated the theater as the Mall Twin Cinema. It closed its doors on August 28, 1997. Today, a church called Revive Church uses that space.
Changes Over the Years
In 2004, the Bealls store moved to a new spot. It took over the building that used to be H. J. Wilson Co. The old Bealls store then became a miniature golf course.
Dillard's made its original store much bigger in 2006. Because of this, the Dillard's men's clothing store, which was in the old Selber Brothers space, closed. The expanded Dillard's became the largest one-story Dillard's store. The old Selber Brothers space was empty for a while. Then, in 2012, a new store called L'Patricia opened there.
Recent Updates and New Stores
In 2016, Longview Mall started a big update project. This project cost $16 million. It added new stores and improved the mall. BJ's Brewhouse built a new restaurant in the mall's parking lot. On the Border also built a separate restaurant there. A Dick's Sporting Goods store was built in the spot where Bealls used to be. The Bealls store itself changed into a Stage store.
In February 2017, H&M opened its first store in East Texas. It is located inside the mall near the main entrance. This space was once a restaurant called Piccadilly Cafeteria.
In March 2018, the mall owner bought the Sears store. They did this in case Sears decided to close. On November 8, 2018, Sears announced it would close this location. The Sears store officially closed in February 2019. On May 31, 2020, it was also announced that the Stage store would close.
